Running, Gunning, and Quadrupel Jumping: Bleed Review

by Dayv

I've spent the last week or so attempting to ignore the Steam Summer Sale due to a general lack of funds and a firm belief in “surely I must have enough games by now”. Apparently my beliefs are wrong and my convictions lacking, and by the end of the sale I had no less than a handful of new games to try out. One amongst them (grabbed potentially at random during a vicious bout of game-buying-frenzy) is Bleed by IanCampbell, a quaint little title that has you shooting everything in sight to prove how awesome you are.

Get it Greenlit: Broforce

I've been roaming the Greenlight again and I've found another game I'm hoping my readers (assuming you exist) might help get on Steam.  Broforce is a ridiculous side-scrolling explosion-fest wherein you play some of the greatest (or perhaps 'worst' is the right word) action heroes of mindless American action movie history.  From Blade to John McClain to 'Indiana Brones', really any action hero you ever saw walk slowly away from an explosion you can play.  And in case it requires mentioning, Broforce also has a ton of explosions.

Broforce is a crazy, bloody, bullet-stormy little 8-bit wonder.  Each level starts you off with a random 'hero', and every time you die or rescue a captive you'll change to another random (but equally insanely-violent) action star.  As you rescue more captives (which give you extra lives), you'll unlock even more heroes to burn the world with, each with a unique weapon as well as some sort of insane super move, such as a missile barrage or a giant exploding poultry (most of the specials are explosions of some variety).  And with almost all of the terrain being destructible, you'll have plenty of objects to hurl your angry machismo at.

I have always been one for mocking what needs to be mocked, and Broforce is a hilarious, not-so-subtle jab at the American love of male violence coupled with non-existent plot--with American Flag checkpoints, 'Area Liberated' flashing across the screen as the level explodes beneath you, and harmless dudes that look like the devil 'guarding' the end of each stage.  But it is likewise a fucking amazing little throwback title that will have you blazing a trail of destruction across [hostile place name].  Vote for it on Steam Greenlight.

Mod Spotlight: T3nd0's Skyrim Redone (TES: Skyrim)

-Dayv

So, Skyrim is an awesome game, whether you're shooting dragons out of the sky or shouting guards off of cliffs, it's just a damn good time all around. So when a modder comes along and manages to make it markedly better, I have to doff my hat and give credit where it is most seriously due.

Autoerotic Terraformation: Reus Review

-Dayv

I'm always on the lookout for games that are willing to be a little different. While I love the throwback platformers (Rogue Legacy, June 27th!!), the survival-crafting sims (check out Starmade for some space-Minecraft), and the 2d puzzlers with weird little twists (uh...well that's actually like 90% of indie titles), I really enjoy seeing something with some fresh gameplay. My most recent fresh find, and one that I don't feel has gotten enough attention, is Reus by Dutch developer Abbey Games, where you'll be utilizing your team of nature-themed giants to cultivate life on a desolate world.

Get it Greenlit: Tower of Guns

-Dayv

I've gotten into the habit lately of roaming around the Steam Greenlight pages, hopping from one amazing concept to the next, often with wide-eyed stares and bated breath (and perhaps some drooling).  It's come to my attention that a LOT of these up-and-coming indie titles deserve recognition and encouragement, so I've decided, entirely for altruistic reasons and with absolutely no ulterior motives, that I might point out when a particular title catches my fancy, so that, should a reader be likewise interested, they might immediately vote for it on Steam Greenlight so I don't have to wait so damn long to play it...er, so that we all don't have to wait so damn long to play it.

Recently a friend suggested I look into Tower of Guns and, well, I already pre-ordered it just to try out the early demo.  While the site claims it to be only about 20% complete, it's already showing huge promise.  A mix of twitchy FPS and a nice bit of roguelike (yes I am obsessed with roguelikes) sprinkled with weird guns, random power-ups and absurd enemies, Tower of Guns is a fast-paced, sit-down-and-shoot-shit experience that I'm looking forward to getting frustrated with.   Check out the trailer below, or just pre-order for $5 and try the demo (although it is a development build so be aware it is by no means a sample of the final game).  But whatever you do, make sure to vote for it on Greenlight.

Epic Heritage: Rogue Legacy (P)review

by Dayv

A few weeks ago, in a desperate attempt to find a new roguelike to fulfill that undying hunger in my heart, I stumbled on the disappointment that was Weird Worlds. While I've played quite a few games since then, that need never really subsided, and I've felt a relentless craving for a new roguelike experience. Luckily, thanks to Steam's Greenlight, I think I may have found it.

At Least I Didn't Starve: Don't Starve Gameplay Diary

Don't Starve (by Klei Entertainment) officially came out last month, and everyone seems to be quite aware of its awesomeness.  Instead of doing a normal review and telling you about how great it clearly is, I figured I'd just keep some tabs on my playthrough to show off my gaming awesomeness.  Unfortunately the following is evidence to the contrary.
